There is much about the mind and consciousness which we were not taught in school. As someone who has always found psychology and studying humans fascinating, I have spent a good portion of my life seeking out information and understanding.
During the first hypnosis session with each regular client, I teach self-hypnosis. This is what I was taught when I took Simpson Protocol training with the iconic and brilliant Ines Simpson. She said that teaching the client self-hypnosis benefited them as well as me because it would make future sessions with them that much easier. I believe this to be true and when a new client reaches out to me to tell me they are practicing daily, I am thrilled!
Here is the thing, our higher self, SuperConscious, or soul self, whatever you prefer to call it, is there for us to consult. It is my belief that we are not simply human beings having spiritual experiences here on earth; in fact, we are spiritual beings having human experiences. This is not news to many and I certainly did not come up with that theory on my own, I do hold it as truth. That being said, our SuperConscious or SC as we cool kids of hypnosis like to call it is available to us when we are ready to access the wisdom and knowledge it holds. We need to give permission for the information to come to us, we need to be open and allow the connection for the data to flow.
Why don’t we just have this connection all along? We came here to have human experiences, if we knew all that our SC holds in its databanks, we would not be able to live a life of Free Will, nor experience the polarity and duality of our choices. We would already know the best and highest choice in every situation; making mistakes is an essential part of being human. Don’t we all learn more from our mistakes than we do from our victories?
During the first hypnosis session with a client, I introduce them to the experience of allowing their SC to take them to the deepest state of trance available to them at the time. This state is different for each client and will likely increase in depth the more they practice on their own or in a facilitated session. Some people find that they hear absolutely everything I say in session and then wonder if they were actually in hypnosis at all. Others will go into such a deep state that they wonder if they were just asleep, with the exception of the fact that they are aware their hand was moving in response to the questions I was asking. They feel as though they are in that swimmy, muddled dream state just between waking and sleep. There are a multitude of states in between the two that a person can experience.
My most recent client felt extremely tired after hypnosis, sleeping twelve hours the night after her initial session. She used her newly acquired self-hypnosis skills to ask SC to take her to a deep state of sleep and for it to continue to work on the Desire statement we developed together. You see, people come to hypnosis to change habits, beliefs, identities, and rid themselves of issues but that is only half of the goal. When we want to leave something behind, we open a space for something we would like to have, do, or be that we are not currently experiencing in our lives. That is the Desire statement which we create together and becomes the mantra or North Star to focus future thoughts and actions towards.
The more focus we put towards what we want versus what we do not want and are currently having the experience of, the more we draw it into our lives. It is unfortunately NOT magic as some might promote, it IS attainable and does require a focused effort.
With hypnosis, we get to experience more of the feelings we want in our lives, we employ the SuperConscious, wiser, more experienced part of our being to help us reach our goals of peace, joy, abundance, gratitude, and LOVE.
Those who are willing to walk the path, doing the work, never regret their efforts.
For myself, the more I learn about myself, the more compassion and self-forgiveness I have for the trials I have experienced and the choices I made during times of duress. This all leads to loving and accepting me, exactly as I am in this very moment.
Here is an example of how hypnosis has recently helped me and a follow up from last week’s entry on My Weird and Wonderful Life called Ancient wounds and inherited prejudice.
It just so happened that I had a practice session set up with a fellow Simpson Protocol practitioner the very next morning after I published the above newsletter. His name is Allan Hassoun, he resides in Toronto Canada and we were connected to give one another hypnosis sessions as part our practice and continuous learning of the protocol. As an aside, Ines Simpson teaches us the basics of the protocol including how to develop the relationship with SuperConscious, then she expects us to grow, change, and use it as we see fit to build upon what she created which is why practicing together helps us see what changes we have made in order to learn and build from one other.
Back to the point, Patricia…
I told Allan about my experience from the day before with the overwhelming, nonsensical fear which overwhelmed me the day before. I wanted to understand the fear, do forgiveness work, and heal whatever I was able. He took me to hypnosis easily as I have been doing this work now for nearly ten years. The first thing that Allan asked SC was whether this prejudice was mine? No, it was not. When I tapped into the energy of the Dakota Dunes that day, I also tapped into a cloud of collective yuck that exists within our province from all time and dimension, born of the animosity, hatred, war, and atrocities committed against the First Nations People of the land. Allan also checked to see if the emotion was stored in the land itself, to which a clear and solid yes came forward. With the help of SC, he cleared what was there at least in regard to the attachment and negative impacts it was having on me. He also cleared a general malaise that had taken me over in the fall from sources beyond this one experience. He asked for the healing to start in that area and for our province in general which has many pockets of racism both historic and current, I am sad to say.
The impact on me and my wellbeing was immediate and lasting. I felt lighter, lifted, and full of the clarity that there is more for me to do about creating a Oneness in my province. The doubt of my own beingness, my own heart’s contents, and the love I feel for everyone was lifted.
Sometimes it really sucks to be an empath… especially an open-hearted empath who at times walks into negativity she forgets exists outside her front door.
I am eagerly anticipating the writers’ retreat my friend Cari and I have planned for the new year; I will travel there with an open heart and a willingness to take on the responsibility of clearing and cleaning my share of anything less than love now and forward.
Thank you for reading. I would be most grateful to hear about any responses these stories bring forward in your own heart and mind. As always, I am open to answering questions about hypnosis. I offer a 30-minute free consultation on my website sparksofhealing.ca/contact; hypnosis can be done in person or remotely through Zoom.
